Local festivals in Almuñécar

Usual celebration

The Virgen de la Antigua patronal festivities are usually held from 9 to 15 August and last one week. The Town Council, religious brotherhoods and local associations organise events in the town centre, fairground, Encarnación church and along the seafront, including the fair, concerts, family activities and religious events. On the 15th, the land-and-sea procession takes the patron to embark at San Cristóbal beach, and the route culminates in a pyromusical display visible from the beaches and the Peñones del Santo.

Local public holidays in 2026

The Andalusian resolution for 2026 declared 19 March and 24 June as Almuñécar's two local public holidays. Neither falls during the August patronal week, so the Virgen de la Antigua celebration should not be described as a local non-working day that year.

Other events

The San José festivities in La Herradura, the Virgen del Carmen celebrations in Barrio de los Marinos, Holy Week and Jazz en la Costa complete the municipality's cultural and festive calendar.
