Local festivals in Amieva

Amieva preserves a festive calendar rooted in its villages and parishes. Residents, local committees and the Town Council take part in religious celebrations, pilgrimages, open-air dances and community gatherings across Sames, Vis, Santoveña, Pen and other settlements.

Usual tradition

San Antonio is celebrated in Sames on 13 June; La Santina takes place on the first Saturday in July; El Carmen on 16 July; and Santiago in Vis on 25 July. The municipal calendar does not prescribe one duration for festivals across the council area: each village holds its own day or weekend. In Sames, La Santina features Mass, a procession, the traditional auction of the bread offering known as the ramu, children's games and an open-air dance.

Local public holidays in 2026

The BOPA declares 13 June, San Antonio in Sames, and 25 July, Santiago in Vis, as Amieva's paid, non-recoverable local holidays. These are the two official local public holidays in 2026, regardless of the other village festivals in the council area.

Other events

Livestock fairs are usually held in Santillán on 19 March, 1 May, 28 September and 1 November; alongside their commercial purpose, they provide a meeting place for people from across the district.
