Local festivals of Arriondas
Arriondas or Les Arriondes, capital of the Parres council, celebrates two events closely linked to its identity: the Piragua Festival and the Bollu Festival of La Peruyal.
Usual celebration: Festival of the Piraguas
El Descenso Internacional del Sella It is usually celebrated on the first Saturday of August, except when it coincides with the 1st or 2nd. The day begins next to the Arriondas bridge with the proclamation in verse, the song of "Asturias, beloved homeland" and the starting cannon shot. Paddlers and clubs travel nearly twenty kilometers along the river to Ribadesella, accompanied by the river train, folk groups, clubs, brass bands and thousands of spectators. The test lasts several hours and the celebration extends throughout the day and into the weekend.
2026 programme
The official agenda sets the 88th edition for the Saturday 8 August 2026, departing from the Arriondas bridge and arriving in Ribadesella; It also confirms the proclamation, the Asturias anthem and the ceremonial cannon shot before the competition.
Local public holidays in 2026
The official calendar of the Principality declares for the entire council of Parres the 22 May, Saint Rita of Casia, and the 27 July, El Bollin. These are the two local public holidays in 2026; The date of the Descent of the Sella is not in itself a non-working day.
Other cultural events: Bollu Festival 2026
The 2026 edition was developed from 24 July to 27 in several locations in Arriondas. The La Peruyal Society and the neighbors participate in four days with Noche Joven, kermesse, pilgrimage and festival; On Sunday there is a folklore parade, bagpipe bands, brass bands and floats to the Paseo de la Concordia, where the preñáu bollu and wine are distributed to the members. On Bollín Monday the festival closes with children's games, a foam party and the "Water, water" parade.
