Carnival, May Festival and culture

The reference celebration is Carnaval de Santa Cruz, with main day Carnival Tuesday, variable date between February and March. The usual holiday period lasts several weeks between contests, parades and street events and develops in fairgrounds, squares, downtown avenues and streets of Santa Cruz.

Among the associated traditions, the gala of the Queen, murgas, troupes, announcing parade, arena, burial of the sardine and dances. Participan principalmente City Council, carnival organisations, groups, troupes, murgas, neighbors and visitors, when the annual programme contemplates it.
