The best-known celebration is the Potes Orujo Festival, devoted to traditional distilling and the food culture of Liébana.
Usual celebration
The Orujo Festival is usually celebrated on the second weekend of November and lasts several days. Plaza de La Serna, the Centro de Estudios Lebaniegos and the town streets host the parade, the proclamation of the Orujero Mayor and the Alquitara de Oro award for the best orujo. The Government of Cantabria, Potes Town Council, producers, folk groups, residents and visitors participate. It has been recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest since 2012.
Local public holidays in 2026
Cantabria's official calendar sets 22 January, San Vicente Mártir, and 14 September, La Santa Cruz, for Potes. These are local non-working public holidays and do not define the duration of the Orujo Festival.
