San Pedro and San Pablo and El Curpillos in Burgos
Usual date and duration. The major festivals of San Pedro and San Pablo take place around 29 June and occupy approximately a week between the end of June and the beginning of July. Another event of its own is El Curpillos, the Friday following Corpus Christi: it combines a religious and military ceremony in the morning next to the Monastery of Las Huelgas with a subsequent popular tour.
2026 Programme. The Sampedros were celebrated from 27 June to 5 July, nueve días. The City Council maintained the floral offering to Santa María la Mayor on the 29th, the parade, Gigantillos and Gigantones, folkloric performances, neighbourhood festivals, club activities and fireworks. The stages were distributed between the Plaza Mayor, the Paseo del Espolón, the Plaza de la Catedral, the neighbourhoods and the fair spaces. The Curpillos took place on 12 June; In 2026, the tour moved to Parque de la Quinta after the mass, procession, military parade and morning dances.
Traditions and participation. The offering, the dancers, Tetines, Gigantones and Gigantillos and the activity of peñas, sashes and blouses give identity to both celebrations. The City Council, civil, religious and military authorities, cultural entities, clubs and citizens participate.
Local public holidays in 2026. Son el Friday, 12 June, El Curpillos, and Monday, 29 June, San Pedro and San Pablo. These two non-working days should not be confused with the entire duration of the Sampedros or with San Lesmes, which in 2026 fell on a Sunday.
