Local festivals of Roa

La Virgin of La Vega, patron saint of Roa, stars in two different celebrations: the spring pilgrimage and the September festivities. The traditional calendar also includes the festivals of San Roque in August.

• Date and duration: The pilgrimage is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. The September cycle begins on 31 August with the transfer of the Virgin from her hermitage and has its main day on 8 September. The San Roque festivities traditionally begin on 14 August and last for several days.
• Usual places: the hermitage of the Virgen de la Vega, the former collegiate church of Santa María, the streets of the processional routes, the square and other spaces in the urban area.
• Traditions: The pilgrimage includes a sermon in the morning and a rosary and procession in the afternoon. In August and September, the transfers of the images between the hermitages and the town, the bonfires and torches along the way, the singing of the rosary and the dancing inside the hermitage stand out. San Roque preserves running of the bulls accompanied by traditional garlic soups.
• Participación: The City Council, parishes, clubs, associations, neighbors and visitors participate. The annual programme adds music, festivals, children's activities and cultural proposals.
• Local public holidays in 2026: The work calendars consulted indicate the 6 April and the 8 September. Since no accessible provincial publication has been located that directly shows the Roa agreement, it is advisable to check the dates in the electronic headquarters before using them for work purposes.
