Local festivals of Astorga

Astorga combines the patron saint festivities of Santa Marta con Astures y Romanos, one of the oldest historical recreations in Castile and Leon and declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. Astorgana Holy Week, recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest, completes the calendar of most notable celebrations.

• Date and duration: Astures y Romanos is usually celebrated at the end of July; In 2026, the Asturian-Roman market is authorized from 24 July to 26. The patron saint festivities of Santa Marta have their central day on 24 August and extend their programme for several days of the second fortnight of the month.
• Usual places: the Asturian and Roman camps next to the wall, the Plaza Mayor, the Synagogue Garden, the Aljibe Park and the streets of the historic centre. In Santa Marta, the city's squares, sports venues and cultural spaces host the different events.
• Traditions: Astures y Romanos recreates the origin of Astúrica Augusta through camps, period markets, parades of tribes and legions, workshops, conferences, games and competitions between both towns. The patron saint festivities bring together religious events in honour of Santa Marta, music, family events and sports activities.
• Participación: The City Council, the Astures and Romans association, tribes, legions, recreational groups, clubs, cultural entities, neighbors and visitors participate. The annual programme specifies routes, schedules and activities subject to registration.
• Local public holidays in 2026: The provincial resolution establishes the 24 July, festival of Astures and Romans, and the 24 August, Santa Marta.
