Local festivals of Ólvega

The two great celebrations of Ólvega are the festivities of the Virgen de Olmacedo, patron saint of the town, and those of the Holy Christ of the Cross on His Back. Both bring together religious events, music and popular activities, although their specific programmes change every year.

  • Date and duration: In 2026, the Virgin of Olmacedo programme takes place from 9 May to 19. The festivals of Christ take place in mid-September; For reference, the 2025 edition was held from 13 September to 18.
  • Usual places: the parish church, the hermitage of the Virgin of Olmacedo and the route that connects both temples. The Plaza de España, the gardens and other municipal venues host performances and social activities.
  • Traditions: The May festivities include the Salve, the blessing and distribution of the chorizo, the procession to the hermitage, the floral offering, the open-air mass and the novena. The main day sees a new procession, the auction of donated products and the distribution of candy. In September, the events in honour of Christ, the jota and the imposition of the handkerchief on children born during the year, with the participation of the Quintos, stand out.
  • Participación: Associations, musical groups, seniors, families and visitors participate in the Fifth events. To know schedules, routes and possible changes, it is advisable to review the municipal agenda for each edition.
