Local festivals of Horcajo de Santiago

The most unique celebration of Horcajo de Santiago is El Vítor, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. The festive calendar is completed with the patron saint festivities of the Holy Christ of the Aparecidos, linked to a fair granted to the town in 1737.

• Date and duration: The Vítor begins on the afternoon of 7 December and its procession continues throughout the night, without a fixed end time. The events continue on 8 December and the cycle concludes on the 9th with the day known as the Virgencilla. The festivals of Christ are usually celebrated from 14 September to 16.
• Usual places: the parish church of the Immaculate Conception, the streets and squares traveled by the procession and the municipal spaces where cultural events take place. The El Vítor House Museum helps interpret the history of the celebration.
• Traditions: novena, proclamation, transfer of hats, floral offering and warm-up prior to departure. In the night procession, three riders carry the banner and its tassels while cheering the Virgin. On 8 December, mass, a new procession and fireworks are celebrated. In September, religious and popular events honour the Christ of the Aparecidos.
• Participación: Neighbors, clubs, associations, horsemen, musicians and visitors accompany the tours and activities. Schedules, itineraries and security measures may vary, so it is advisable to review the programme for each edition.
• Local public holidays in 2026: The official calendar sets the 14 September and the 9 December. These work dates should not be confused with the entire duration of the holidays; In addition, 8 December is already a national holiday.
