Local festivals of Marchamalo

The most deeply rooted festivals in Marchamalo are the Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Holy Christ of Hope, conocido popularmente como El Gallardo. The City Council places them first weekend of may and describes them as the most important festival in the town, with more than 700 years of tradition.

• Main celebration day: around the 4 May, Santa Monica Day, within the first weekend of May.
• Usual duration: The City Council indicates that the festive events last for cuatro días completos, with atmosphere and activities throughout the month of May.
• Usual places: Church of the Santa Cruz, Plaza Mayor, streets of the municipality, Alcor area, municipal cultural and sports spaces, and other points used in the spring programming.
• Associated traditions: processions of the Holy Christ, auction of the Brotherhood, preparation of Marchamalo buns and lemonade, Bicycle Day, Athletics Festival, Fishing Championship in the Henares Canal and Cultural Week.
• Who participates: City Council, Brotherhood, clubs, associations, educational centres, sports and cultural entities, neighbors, families and visitors.
• Local public holiday: para 2026, the City Council publishes Marchamalo local festivals on 30 April and the 15 May, San Isidro. The patron saint's day should not be confused with the entire festive period, which in 2026 is announced from 30 April to 3 May.
