The Festa Major of Vilafranca, dedicated to Sant Fèlix, maintains a fixed calendar and a heritage ceremony of castles, fire, processions, dances and gralla music.
Usual celebration
The Catalog of the Festive Heritage of Catalonia sets five days from 29 August to 2 September, with 30 August as the central day of Sant Fèlix. The 29th begins with a ringing, thunderstorm, cercavila and castells and ends with the procession and the Entrance of Sant Fèlix in the Basilica of Santa Maria. The 30th brings together matinades, services, seguici and Diada Castellera de Sant Fèlix in the Plaza de la Vila; The 31st presents the local dances and colles. On 1 September, the Festa Major dels Petits and the Ball de Foc are celebrated, and day 2 concludes with music, dancing and a fire castle. The official calendar of the Generalitat declared local holidays in Vilafranca del Penedès on Monday, 31 August and Tuesday, 1 September. These two dates are within the usual holiday, but the five days from 29 August to 2 September were not all public holidays.
