Local festivals in Piornal
Piornal's calendar is headed by Jarramplas, alongside San Roque and other events connected with the cultural and farming cycle of the Jerte Valley.
Usual celebration
Jarramplas is usually celebrated on 19 and 20 January in honour of San Sebastián. The character, wearing a mask and a suit of coloured ribbons, walks through Piornal's streets playing a drum while turnips are ritually thrown at him. The sequence includes the request for offerings, departures from the church, Alborás, a communal serving of migas, a procession, the singing of the Rosca, a ronda and the symbolic handover for the following year. The Town Hall, mayordomos, the people who play Jarramplas, the mozas de la Rosca, quintos, peñas, residents and visitors participate; the principal events last two days, although community preparations take much longer.
August also brings San Cristóbal, with a pilgrimage from Plaza de las Eras to the chapel, and San Roque around the 16th, with Mass, a procession, music, peñas, sport and food in the town's streets and squares. La Toñá adds folklore and local produce in autumn.
Local public holidays in 2026
The Extremadura Directorate-General for Employment resolution declares 20 January and 17 August as Piornal's paid, non-recoverable local public holidays in 2026. These are the two official non-working days; they do not make every day of the celebrations a public holiday.

The local calendar is completed by activities linked to Cerezo en Flor and cultural events in the town centre and the surrounding Jerte Valley, independently of the two local public holidays.
