San Xoán, Antroido y agenda cultural
The popular celebration of reference in A Coruña is San Xoán, Festival of International Tourist Interest. Its central moment is the night of 23 June to 24, a main duration of one night, although the cultural and neighbourhood activities last for several days. The usual places are the beaches of Riazor and Orzán, the promenade, neighbourhoods and other public spaces.
The traditions include bonfires and authorized barbecues, sardiñadas, concerts, fireworks, the burning of the falla and the rituals of the night of San Juan. The City Council, neighbourhood associations and entities, hospitality, emergency and cleaning services, families and visitors participate. The Antroido, the Northwest Festival and the Naval Battle complete the cultural calendar without being confused with San Xoán.
In the 2026 annual programme, the municipal decree signed on 8 June expressly regulates the celebrations and barbecues of San Xoán and maintains its central date. The municipal headquarters enabled the communication of sardiñadas, churrascadas and its own activities from 5 June to 27, maintaining the night of the 23rd to the 24th as the main day.
Los local public holidays in A Coruña in 2026 it's tuesday 17 February, Tuesday of Entroido, and Wednesday 7 October, Rosary festival, according to the Official Gazette of Galicia. San Xoán is the great popular festival, but it is not included among those two local work days.
