Festivals and culture in Cangas

The Council's tourism area brings together the parties and festivals of Cangas, with references to ancestral dances, gastronomic festivals, local festivals and Holy Week.

The central celebration of the town is the Festas do Cristo, with the main day linked to the last sunday of august and local public holiday following monday. In 2026, the municipal calendar establishes as a local holiday the 31 August, Luns do Cristo.

The festive period usually extends for several days in the urban environment of Cangas, with events in the square, the mall, downtown streets, the port environment and the church. The programming may include music, festivals, popular activities, religious events, neighbourhood participation, associations, clubs, families and visitors.

The second local public holiday published for 2026 is 27 March, Friday of Sorrows, related to Canguesa Holy Week. It should not be confused with the entire Holy Week period or with other parish festivals such as Aldán, Darbo, Coiro or O Hío.

As outstanding cultural offers, Cangas has Holy Week, traditional dances, gastronomic festivals, Canjazz, International Festival of Comic and Festive Theater, beaches, coastal routes and municipal tourist resources about the urban centre, parishes and charming places.
