Christ of Victory and festivities of Vigo
Date, duration and usual places. The reference religious celebration culminates the first sunday in august; in 2026 it corresponded to 2 August. The Christ of Victory procession starts from the Co-Cathedral of Santa María and runs through the centre, while the summer festive programme extends for several weeks through Castrelos, Porta do Sol, Casco Vello, the port and other cultural spaces.
2026 Programme. Vigo Festas brought together concerts and shows in the Castrelos auditorium, as well as children's activities and popular events spread throughout the city. This annual agenda accompanies, but does not replace, the acts of Christ. In March, the Reconquista of Vigo is also celebrated, a different historical festival that occupies the streets and squares of Casco Vello.
Traditions and participation. The massive procession, the brotherhood's events and the devotion to Christ coexist with concerts, festivals and popular culture. The Brotherhood of the Santísimo Cristo de la Victoria, parishes, City Council, associations, musicians, neighbourhood, families and visitors participate. La Reconquista incorporates a market and historical reenactments, and the Bouzas festivals provide seafaring tradition and fireworks.
Local public holidays in 2026. The resolution published by the Xunta establishes the Saturday, 28 March, Festa da Reconquista, and Monday, 17 August, first working day after San Roque. They are two specific work days: they are not equivalent to the entire duration of Christ, Vigo en Festas or the historical reenactment.
