Local festivals in Getafe

Getafe's patronal festival honours Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles and is arranged around Pentecost each year. The descent and later return of the image connect Cerro de los Ángeles with the town centre, while the City Council, the Congregation, peñas and many local organisations sustain the civic and religious programme.

Usual celebration

The cycle lasts several weeks from the Virgin's descent until her return to the hill. Plaza de la Magdalena, Plaza de la Constitución, the fairground, Parque Lorenzo Azofra, the lake in Sector III and Juan de la Cierva sports centre host processions, the floral offering, an opening speech, concerts, floats, children's activities, fireworks and the burning of the chamá.

Programme for 2026

The edition ran from 14 to 31 May. It began with the descent from Cerro de los Ángeles; the first Día de las Peñas took place in Parque Ciudad de los Niños on 24 May, and the mayordomía walks and Pentecost processions followed on 24 and 25 May. The programme also brought concerts and association stalls to the fairground, the 29 May musical firework show at the Sector III lake, the float parade and the burning of the chamá on 31 May.

Local public holidays in 2026

The Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid designated Thursday 14 May and Monday 25 May as Getafe's local public holidays. The first coincided with the image's descent and the second with Whit Monday; the other programme days were not non-working public holidays merely because festival events took place.

Other events

From May to July, districts including Juan de la Cierva, Getafe Norte, Buenavista, Perales del Río and El Bercial organise celebrations lasting several days through their committees, residents' associations and civic centres. Their separate programmes bring open-air dances, sport, theatre, bonfires, markets and communal meals to each district's squares, parks and festival grounds.
