Local festivals of Benicarló
The patron saint festivities honour Sant Bartomeu, on 24 August, to Saints Abdón and Senén and Santa Maria de la Mar. Its traditions include the proclamation, the queen and the Court of Honour, giants and big heads, correfocs, concerts, habaneras, seafood gastronomy, children's events, bous, battle of flowers and fireworks castle. The Sant Bartomeu square, the historic centre, the port esplanade, the Peñas Campus and the cultural and sports spaces distribute the activity.
2026 programme: The City Council announced the festivities of 22 August to 30, a duration of nueve días. The opening proclamation on the 22nd is given by Agustín Cerdá Ferrer. The queen, the dulcinea, the ladies and the children's representatives form the Court of Honour, along with sports clubs, brotherhoods, cultural groups and clubs that contribute participants and events to the programme. The main day continues to be 24 August, the Sant Bartomeu festival.
Local public holidays in 2026: The Generalitat calendar sets the 9 May, Sant Gregori, and the 24 August, Sant Bartomeu. They are the two paid local days and are not recoverable; They are not equivalent to the nine days of the patron saint's festivities. The Fallas and the Artichoke Festival are other relevant celebrations, with their own calendars.
