Local festivals of Buñol
The August Fair and Festivals integrate La Tomatina, the festival of San Luis Bertrán and the musical tradition of the two great local societies.
Usual celebration: La Tomatina
La Tomatina It is usually celebrated on the last Wednesday of August in the streets of the centre and the People's Square. The tomato battle lasts an hour, although access, preparations and cleaning extend the day. The municipal story places its origin in 1945, during a parade of giants and big heads; After prohibitions and recoveries it was institutionalized and in 2002 it received the declaration of Festival of International Tourist Interest. The City Council, its security and cleaning services, neighbors and visitors with entry and subject to access regulations participate.
2026 programme
The municipal agenda sets the Children's Tomatina for the 22 August a las 10:00 in the Plaza del Pueblo and La Tomatina for the 26 August, de 12:00 a 13:00. On 15 August, the San Luis Auditorium hosts the 51st Mano a Mano Concert by the musical societies La Artística and La Armónica, another central tradition of the Fair and Festivals.
Local public holidays in 2026
The calendar of the Generalitat Valenciana declares local festivals, paid and non-recoverable, the 26 August, La Tomatina, and the 27 August, Saint Louis. These two days do not make the entire duration of the fair non-working.
Otras citas culturales
The gang culture is expressed in the Mano a Mano Concert at the San Luis Auditorium. The La Tomatina Museum, located in the Molino Galán next to the Tourist Office, preserves photographs, testimonies and audiovisual resources about the evolution of the festival.
