Amposta Market Square Festival 2026 Programme

The 18th edition took place from 15 to 17 May 2026 and focused on sport in the early twentieth century, especially cycling and football. This selection arranges the main events from the official programme; the organisers could make changes.

Pre-festival activities

  • 30 April, 7 pm: talk on cycling in Amposta at the Museu de les Terres de l'Ebre.
  • 13 May, 9.30 am-noon: traditional games and a school cycle ride in the old town streets.
  • 14 May, 7 pm: opening of the exhibition on a century of cycling and football at the Museu de les Terres de l'Ebre.
  • 14 May, 8 pm-1 am: Últim Sopar a les Fosques at participating restaurants.

Friday 15 May

  • 5-9 pm: Mercat d'Època in the old town streets.
  • 5.30-7 pm: Lluita del Bac display in Plaça Ramon Berenguer IV.
  • 6-7 pm: period mass at the Sagrat Cor parish church.
  • 7.30-8.30 pm: opening ceremony about early twentieth-century sport in Plaça de l'Ajuntament.
  • 8 pm-midnight: XII Tasta el Mercat de Nit at the Mercat Municipal.
  • 9-11 pm: Swing Airlines in Carrer Palau i Quer.
  • 9 pm-3 am: Cursa Enigmàtica from Plaça Ramon Berenguer IV.
  • 10.30 pm-midnight: Lo vaporet at Teatre-Auditori Octavi Ruiz.

Saturday 16 May

The Mercat d'Època opened from 10 am to 9 pm. The day included caramelles, family games, theatre, circus, rondalles, cart rides, dancing and activities across the old town.

  • 11.30 am-noon: period football match at the river landing.
  • 5.45-6.15 pm: recreation of Volta Ciclista'26, starting in Carrer del Grau and following an urban route.
  • 6.30-8.30 pm: Jota Viva gathering and performances between La Lira and Plaça Ramon Berenguer IV.
  • 8.30-10 pm: Es ballava i es balla concert in Plaça de l'Ajuntament.
  • 10.30 pm-midnight: Orquestra Los Forasteros at the junction of Sant Josep and Alcalde Palau.
  • 11.30 pm: Lo Ball del Fanalet at Sant Josep and Avinguda de la Ràpita.

Sunday 17 May

The Mercat d'Època opened from 10 am to 9 pm alongside lace-making, classic bicycles, games, theatre, routes and cart rides.

  • Noon-1 pm: dramatised scenes in Plaça de l'Ajuntament and sardanes in Plaça de l'Aube.
  • 1 pm: Concurs de Pepito de Canes award in Plaça de l'Ajuntament.
  • 5-6.30 pm: Balls del País in Plaça Cara-sol.
  • 6.30-7.30 pm: casteller workshop in Plaça Ramon Berenguer IV and serenade concert in Cara-sol.
  • 8.30 pm: Lo Passeig parade along Avinguda de la Ràpita, Sant Josep and Carrer Major to Plaça de l'Ajuntament.
  • Afterwards: closing mascletà in Plaça de l'Aube.

Exhibitions, routes and tickets

The programme included exhibitions on a century of sport, historic vehicles, household objects and FC Amposta, plus night-time, Modernist and urban tours and boat trips. Some activities required booking or a ticket; official information was available from the council, the festival website and the Culture and Festivals Office.
