Holy Week in Alcañiz 2026 programme
The 2026 edition ran from Sunday 29 March to Sunday 5 April. The Ruta del Tambor y Bombo Association programme, linked by Aragon Tourism, published the times, events, places and route areas for the Alcañiz celebrations.
Palm Sunday, 29 March
At 11.30 am, palms were blessed and the Burreta procession followed Plaza de España, Calle Blasco and Calle Alejandre. The Eucharist was then held in Iglesia de Santa María.
Holy Monday, 30 March
At 7 pm, Santa María hosted Mass for deceased members of the brotherhoods. The Holy Week proclamation by Antonio Bascones began at 8.30 pm in Teatro Municipal.
Holy Tuesday, 31 March
The Encuentro procession and Stations of the Cross began at 8 pm. Organised by Cofradía del Santo Entierro, it used the lower part of the town.
Holy Wednesday, 1 April
Hermandad de Jesús Nazareno began the Nazareno procession at 10.30 pm through the upper part of Alcañiz.
Maundy Thursday, 2 April
The Mass of the Lord's Supper was held at 6 pm in Iglesia de Santa María. At 10.30 pm, Hermandad del Silencio led the Silencio procession through the lower part of the town.
Good Friday, 3 April
Prayers for deceased members of Hermandad del Silencio were held at the cemetery at 10 am. The Pregón procession began at 1 pm, crossed the lower and upper parts and ended with the proclamation in Plaza de España. The Roman guard watched over the tomb at 6.45 pm in Santa María. The Soledad procession began at 8 pm in the upper town; the night of drumming started afterwards.
Holy Saturday, 4 April
The Santo Entierro procession began at 4 pm and crossed the lower and upper parts of the town. Drumming ceased at 8 pm in Plaza de España.
Easter Sunday, 5 April
Easter Mass was held at 12 noon in Iglesia de Santa María. It was followed by the Palometas procession, organised by Cofradía de la Virgen del Carmen and Cofradía del Santo Entierro, in Plaza de España.
