Torrejón del Rey August Festivals

The Torrejón del Rey August Festivals are the Guadalajara municipality's main summer celebration. Over several days, they bring together peñas, bull-related events, music, sport, children's activities and communal meals in a programme shaped by local participation.

Usual date

They are usually held in mid-August. Exact dates and duration vary by edition: recent council programmes concentrate the main events around 15 August and include competitions and activities during the preceding days.

The date of any particular activity should be checked each year against the programme or council notices.

Festival venues

Plaza Mayor is one of the main gathering places for the opening address, performances and communal meals. The programme also uses Casino Municipal on Calle Ancha, David Alonso Municipal Sports Centre, Las Margaritas football ground, the swimming pool and other locations in the town and Las Castillas.

Peñas and the opening

The peñas play a central role in the festive atmosphere and in bringing neighbours together. The main days commonly begin with an opening address and ceremonial rocket, accompanied by gatherings of peña members, music and collective activities. Bull runs and bull-related events

Bull runs form part of the traditional programme. Each year, the council publishes safety conditions and, where applicable, authorisations for vehicles and horse riders taking part in the cross-country bull run. Participation is subject to the rules and restrictions announced for that edition.
