Oral musical tradition
Cuadrillas and animeros perform repertories passed down orally. Music is not confined to a stage: it is played and danced to in Barranda's streets, squares and community venues.
History and recognition
The festival began in 1979 and attracts thousands of visitors. It is designated a Festival of National Tourist Interest and is closely connected with the Aguilanderos de Barranda and the Ethnic Music Museum.
Usual programme
The weekend combines study sessions, workshops, concerts and dances. Sunday features a sung Mass, the reception of the cuadrillas, street music and traditional free-form dancing.
