Festivals in the Sagrada Familia and the Santísimo Cristo de la Vall d’Uixó

Celebration date

The three patron days follow a stable rule: they are celebrated on second sunday of october and the following Monday and Tuesday. Sunday is dedicated to the Translation of the Lord, Monday to the Holy Family and Tuesday to the Most Holy Christ of Calvary. The cultural and festive programming usually begins earlier and lasts for more days.

Employer tradition does not alone determine the work calendar. Local holidays must be verified each year in the corresponding official resolution.

Venue

The parish of Santo Ángel Custodio, the Plaza de la Sagrada Familia and the hermitages linked to the patron saint's images articulate the religious events. The processions and pilgrimages travel through the streets of the urban centre, while markets, shows and gastronomic proposals occupy different spaces according to the annual programme.

Origin and history

The sequence of the festivities was consolidated around the parish of Santo Ángel. After the expansion of the temple, the opening to worship in 1747 was commemorated with the solemn transfer of the Eucharistic reserve from the chapel of the ducal palace to the new tabernacle. This Transfer was joined to the older devotions of the Holy Family and the Holy Christ.

The State granted these festivals the title of Festival of National Tourist Interest in 2004. The declaration expressly identifies the town of Vall d'Uixó, in Castellón.

Las tres jornadas patronales

The Transfer remembers the passage from the reserve of the Blessed Sacrament to the expanded temple and is expressed through a Eucharistic procession. The day of the Sagrada Familia preserves the climb to the hermitage of Sant Josep and the processional return to the parish temple. The day of the Holy Christ of Calvary maintains a particularly devotional character around its hermitage and image.

Who participates

The festival commission, the parish of Santo Ángel Custodio, mayorales and clavarios, local associations, musical groups, participants in the festivities, the City Council, neighbors and visitors support an extensive programme. Religious events coexist with a popular aspect aimed at audiences of different ages.

Gastronomy and street life

Among the local gastronomic references, the empedrao, rice with beans and meat that appears in community celebrations. The specific offering of popular meals, stalls and activities changes each year and should only be confirmed when the organisation publishes its programme.

Partial announcements or repetition of events from previous years do not allow setting times, places or dates for this edition, so it is advisable to consult the organisation and municipal channels before attending.
