Las Bodas de Isabel de Segura in Teruel

Las Bodas de Isabel de Segura turns Teruel's historic centre into a thirteenth-century town to stage the final part of the Lovers' legend. Street theatre, processions, music, dances, camps, haimas and a medieval market immerse the public in a re-enactment sustained by exceptional local participation.

Celebration date

It is normally held around the third weekend in February, over four days from Thursday to Sunday. Exact dates change each year and must be confirmed in the official programme.

Venue and stages

The re-enactment occupies Teruel's historic centre. Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza del Torico and Plaza del Seminario host central scenes; streets, the Rondas, Glorieta, Paseo del Óvalo, Escalinata, Parque de los Fueros and the bullring accommodate processions, the market, haimas, camps and displays.

The legend being staged

The drama is set in medieval Teruel and tells of Diego de Marcilla's return after seeking the fortune needed to marry Isabel de Segura. Finding her married to Pedro de Azagra, Diego asks Isabel for a kiss; she refuses and he dies. During the funeral rites, Isabel kisses him and dies beside him.

A participatory medieval town

The re-enactment extends beyond the central scenes. Local groups recreate guilds, families, orders and social estates in their haimas; the market, military camps, historical fencing, workshops, concerts and entertainment fill many sites. Medieval dress makes residents and visitors a visible part of the story.

Organisation and recognition

Fundación Bodas de Isabel produces the performance and the Federation of Associations coordinates numerous groups, supported by institutions and volunteers. The festival obtained national recognition in 2016, and the State Secretariat for Tourism granted it the title Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional, a Spanish Festival of International Tourist Interest, by resolution of 23 December 2025, published in the BOE on 28 January 2026.
