Badajoz Carnival transforms the city before Lent with murgas, comparsas, mobile contraptions, costumes and major parades.

Murgas and comparsas
The Official Murgas Competition takes place at the López de Ayala Theatre, while comparsas prepare music, choreography and costumes for the parades and street carnival.
Parades and street events
The programme includes a children's parade, the Grand Parade, a route for decorated mobile contraptions, performances and events in squares and neighbourhoods. The Burial of the Sardine remains one of its traditional closing events.
Recognition and participation
The carnival is designated a Festival of International Tourist Interest. Groups, associations, families and visitors fill public spaces throughout an extensive programme.
