On Thursday 13 August, Elche celebrates the Nit de l'Albà, a popular fireworks tradition dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption. The official 2026 August Festivities programme schedules the coordinated firing of aerial palms from different parts of the city to begin at 11.15 pm. Shortly before midnight, the fireworks stop, the street lighting is switched off and the Gloria Patri from the Misteri d'Elx is played. At midnight, as Friday 14 begins, the Palm of the Virgin is launched from the bell tower of Santa María. The celebration is not a public holiday in its own right.

For three quarters of an hour, Elche's sky becomes one enormous shared stage, with aerial palms rising from neighbourhoods and rooftops until the city falls silent for the final launch. Wednesday 12 August marks International Youth Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution 54/120, adopted in 1999. The day draws the international community's attention to issues affecting young people and recognises their potential as active participants in society. On Tuesday 11 August, San Román de Candamo brings its San Lorenzo festivities to a close with Bollu Day. The official Asturias Tourism programme schedules the solemn Mass for 1 pm and the distribution of the traditional bollu preñao from 8 pm. The evening meal will be accompanied by the Mujeres por Candamo dance and tambourine group and by a bagpipe-and-drum duo. This Monday, 10 August, the main day of the San Lorenzo Festival is celebrated in the Centro district of Madrid. The municipal programme for 2026 places the celebration between the 8th and 11th, with the Arturo Barea square as the central stage and activities in different parts of Lavapiés. This Sunday, 9 August, the San Lorenzo Festival begins in Huesca, which will last until the 15th. The municipal tourist portal places the traditional opening in the Cathedral Square, where thousands of Huesca people wait in the morning for the firing of the announcing rocket. This Saturday, 8 August 2026, the 88th International Descent of the Sella will be held between Arriondas and Ribadesella. The official regulations set the start at 12:00 from the Arriondas bridge and frames the test in the ICF 2026 Canoe Marathon World Series. This Friday, 7 August 2026, the San Cayetano festivities celebrate their main and final day in the Centro district of Madrid. This Thursday, 6 August 2026, Quel celebrates its Bread and Cheese Festival in La Rioja, declared of National Tourist Interest. The day remembers the vote made by the neighbors during an epidemic in 1479. The central act maintains the procession from the church to the hermitage of Santo Cristo de la Transfiguración, accompanying the Virgin of Antigua. Afterwards, about 2,500 bread rolls and 50 kilos of cheese are thrown from the balcony of the hermitage. La Rioja Tourism expressly confirms the celebration for 6 August 2026.

In Quel, the bread and cheese do not wait calmly on a table: they arrive from the balcony of the hermitage before a crowd ready to collect their ration. This Wednesday, 5 August 2026, Our Lady of Africa is a public holiday in the Autonomous City of Ceuta. The calendar of the Ceuta electronic headquarters marks the day as a holiday and the official list published by the BOE classifies it as an autonomous community holiday for Ceuta; Therefore, it is not a state holiday nor does it apply to the rest of Spain.
